The idea behind this part of the movie is that a “stray” is taken in and to defend the new cub, a little lion is telling everyone to back off and respect his new found “brother”. I’d like to think of our community in the same way. Our collaboration and coming together within our communities is crucial in reaching net zero goals, as evidenced by recent initiatives across the UK:
- Climate Action Hubs: The Scottish government is supporting a network of 24 regional community climate action hubs with £5.5 million in funding for 2024-25. These hubs empower local communities to take climate action through projects like local energy generation, flood mitigation, and food growing.
- Mission Net Zero: Bristol’s £5 million initiative, funded by Innovate UK, aims to accelerate the region’s transition to net zero by 2030. The project supports communities in developing climate action plans, explores strategic investment opportunities, and creates green jobs and training.
- Let’s Go Zero Campaign: This national campaign unites 2,000 UK schools, representing over 1 million students, in a commitment to become zero carbon by 2030. The campaign has successfully influenced government policy, securing support for four out of seven policy requests.
- Net Zero Living Program: Innovate UK’s £60 million program is funding projects across the UK to overcome non-technical barriers to net zero implementation. In its first phase, 31 projects received a share of £2 million for feasibility studies on local net zero innovations.
These collaborative efforts demonstrate that engaging communities is essential for achieving net zero goals, as it enables localised solutions, increases public awareness, and drives sustainable practices at grassroots levels. Are you allowing people to bully your solar brothers or initiatives? We need to know our stuff well enough to defend it, and then together, we can achieve our goals. Stand up bro.
