This is not a shaming read. I myself just found out a few days ago.

A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is a technology that captures energy from various sources and stores it in rechargeable batteries for later use. This is precisely what we specialise in, offering portable solar panels and batteries that allow individuals to store and utilise energy efficiently. Both BESS and UNDERTWOK’s products aim to provide flexible, on-demand power solutions. We just focus on small-scale, personal applications that encourage users to live under 2 kWh per person per day.

The recent strategic agreement between Fidra Energy and Sungrow marks a significant milestone in the BESS sector. This collaboration will see Sungrow supplying its advanced PowerTitan 2.0 BESS units to two of Fidra’s major UK projects: the 1.4GW Thorpe Marsh project and the 500MW/1GWh West Burton C BESS.

For companies like us, this development underscores the growing importance of energy storage solutions in the renewable energy landscape. While we focus on small-scale, personal energy solutions, the Fidra-Sungrow partnership demonstrates the scalability of battery technology from individual use to grid-level applications.

This collaboration is crucial for businesses in the energy industry as it showcases the increasing demand for large-scale energy storage to support renewable energy integration. For other industries, it highlights the potential for innovative partnerships to drive sustainable energy solutions.

The emphasis on long-term maintenance in this agreement also brings attention to the lifecycle management of energy storage systems. This aspect is particularly relevant to our mission, as it emphasises the importance of efficient, long-lasting energy solutions.

While the news doesn’t directly address material disposal, it implicitly underscores the need for responsible end-of-life planning for large-scale battery systems, Refer to our trade in blog here.  As the BESS market grows, companies must prioritise sustainable practices, including the proper disposal and recycling of materials, to ensure the long-term viability of renewable energy solutions.
